Women’s roles have changed throughout history and from culture to culture. But even with all of women’s rights and women’s movements there are still many old beliefs and feelings that disempower women. One of the most destructive influences to disempowering women today is women themselves. So many women feel they have to be the giver and the doer for everyone. Women allow themselves to feel like everyone else is more important than themselves. I know and understand that much of this is from up brining and societies view of a woman’s role as the wife, mother and home maker. Unfortunately society is not going to change their views until women change their own views of themselves. How can someone expect others the love them and care for them if they don’t truly love and care for themselves. We can only attract to ourselves what we project out about ourselves. If you feel other people’s needs are more important than your own, well then so will everyone else. I have worked with so many women who even feel uncomfortable about just receiving attention. It has become unnatural to them and awkward. They are far more comfortable giving without any expectation to receive anything in return then they are to just receive. This is not healthy and there needs to be a balance. Not only for women, but this is also denying men the experience and joy of just being the giver. So it is going to be up to women to find their self worth and claim their power as a loving, caring, sensual and sexual Goddess who is worthy of receiving just as much as she gives and is able love themselves for who they are.
I admit I would not want to be a woman. It has to be tough with all of the expectations and images that Western society puts on women. Stress levels of everyone are the highest they have even been in history and most of that stress is due to pressure put on by society and religions. Look at the picture above. That use to be what was considered an ideal woman's figure. And honestly she has a very healthy body. But it is not what is considered healthy and sexy today. Many images of what women should look like are not only unattainable for most of the population but many are also just unhealthy. I understand and admit that it’s difficult to not care about how other people see you and feel about you, but that is exactly what we need to do, men and women alike. We were not meant to all look exactly alike and have the same body. There is beauty is difference. But most of all when it comes down to it, No One and I mean No One knows what it is like to be you and live your life. No one has experienced your up brining, has had the relationships you’ve had, and has to experience the specific pressures that you personally deal with throughout your life. So how can anyone judge you, or say you should have done this or you should have done that, or you should be doing this. They can’t, no more than you can say any of those things to anyone else. We make the decisions we do and see the world and ourselves how we see them because of the experiences we have had and know. It’s those experiences that influence what we think is true or how things should be and it’s those truths and how things should be that make us so unhappy with ourselves and in our lives. They make us unhappy because inside we know those things we think are true or how things should be are actually very false. This conflict tears us apart inside like ripping a sheet of paper in half.
So how do we become whole again and discover what is true (for us, individually)? The first thing we need to do is let go of the past and all past experiences that have made us feel anything less than amazing special people who are loved Unconditionally by God and by our own soul, higher self, spirit, divine being, God or Goddess (whatever you like to call it). Let go of anything anyone has ever said to you that was mean or negative. Because remember they have no right to say anything negative to you because they are not you and have no clue what it is like to be you. Next is don’t care what anyone (other than yourself) thinks about you, how you live your life, what you have done or what you are doing. Who are they anyway? They are not you, so what do they know? And for the most part if people have something to say to you and it is not positive, it is usually because they are insecure about themselves and it is much more comfortable for them if everyone around them feels bad about themselves. That way it makes them feel better because they are can feel like they are not the only one’s feeling horrible so it gives them comfort. Don’t get sucked into.
Ok, so the first two steps were the easy ones. The next one is often the most difficult for many people but it can be done. The final step is to be able to look in the mirror and say you love yourself, your body and you life, and mean it. Did your stomach just get knots in it? Yeah it’s not easy. Everyone, even men, even I have traits and different things we do not like about ourselves. I’m Italian and I am prone to a pot belly (Thanks dad!) Where most guys just fill out and look husky and built, I have slim legs, arms, chest and then a big belly. Since I have long hair, it looks like I’m a drag queen pretending to be pregnant, lol. I tell you it’s not the prettiest sight. So you are not the only one who doesn’t like something about yourself. We all do.
The best thing to do is start with things you do like about yourself. Look in a mirror and admire features you do like. Also just be grateful and appreciative of your health, and all the positive things in your life. No matter how small you think they may be appreciate them and be grateful that you have even those small things because not everyone does. Each time you do this exercise try to think of something new. After you do this every day for about a week or so you it will get easier and you will start to feel real appreciation and you will start to see yourself and your life differently.
So how does this really help? It works on a few different levels and in different ways. 1. It just gets us out of the habit of focusing on just the negative which only ends up exaggerating the negative in our mind or perspective. The next two you will need to have read my page “The Healing Power of the Orgasm”. 2. Our thoughts cause our pituitary and other glands to release several kinds of neurotransmitters, neuro-peptides and hormones. These hormones and nuro-peptides are sent to those areas of our bodies that we are focused on and they relay the message of how we feel. If you look at ourselves and think I hate my stomach. Yuck! It’s gross. I’m fat. Everything you just thought and felt is relayed to all of those cells and there is a chemical and physical reaction when the nuro-peptides dock with each cell. You are directly re-enforcing what you dislike and contributing to it. The more you think you’re fat, the more you send chemical messages telling your body you’re fat and your body listens and obeys. 3. Is energy. Thoughts and emotions are energy. They can be measured and each though and emotion has its own vibration. Our cells, organs and our body in general vibrate at frequencies close to those of love, happiness, joy and pleasure. You’ve heard the saying laughter is the best medicine. It is completely true. It’s not exactly the laughter, but it’s the feeling of joy and happiness that makes an energetic and then physical change in the body. When you bombard your body with emotions and thoughts of hate, disgust, shame, fear or any negative emotions / thoughts the cells in the body begin to vibrate and those negative frequencies instead of their normal vibration. The lower vibrations of negative emotions/ thoughts begin to damage the cells. Now once a cell is damaged or diseased it will make more damaged or diseased cells. Can a damaged / diseased cell be repair? Yes! 100% yes it can be repaired. Not only can it be repaired, but it can be repaired by your thoughts alone. It has been proven in experiments and there are thousands of real stories of it happening. Doesn’t matter if you call it miracles from prayer, positive thinking, or mediation, it is all the same.
Now you can see how powerful learning to love ourselves can be. Every time you look in the mirror and think how much you hate yourself or something about yourself you are damaging those cells and parts of your body. But if you look in the mirror and think how wonderful you are and how lucky you are, you send every cell the vibration and chemical messages of love, acceptance, appreciation, and joy. Now all of those cells begin to vibrate at higher healthier vibrations. Those higher vibrations of love, joy and such also have anti-aging effects on the skin and entire body. It is a fact and I know you know someone who has had an incredibly stressful and unhappy life and they age very quickly, compared to those who manage their stress and enjoy life as much as they can.
While this may be one of the most difficult things for many people to do, I can promise it is one of the most powerful for having a happy and healthy life. Look in that mirror and say “Hello Goddess! Thank you for being you. I honor all that you have done and I am proud of all that you have overcome. Most of all I LOVE You and the wonderful life You have chosen!” Because that is Exactly how the Goddess / Higher Self / Spirit / Soul feels about You!
